'Health Is Wealth': New Restaurant Opens Downtown Brockton Serving Smoothies, Salads & More
BROCKTON — Right in the heart of Brockton is a new healthy restaurant that's focused on health but filled with organic Haitian flavors.
Brockton residents can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Garden Cafe, 245 Main St., Brockton.
Come and try homemade chicken or pumpkin soup, salads, wraps, natural juices, baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, and hot or iced tea and coffee.
The cafe's motto is “health is wealth,” and taking care of your body is important, but it should also be tasty, the owners say.
The local cafe is located on the Money Market Inc. property, around the corner and across from Ideal Jewelry & Loan.
Upon entering, you are greeted by a rich and homely atmosphere among the plants on the walls and at the main service counter.
“It's a different atmosphere here. We see a large number of pedestrians. I’m surprised and grateful,” said Synovia Thomas, owner of The Garden Café.
Thomas' favorite foods are bacon, eggs, cheese croissant, pumpkin soup, shrimp rolls, and carrot and lemon juice.

The restaurant serves American cuisine, but uses the classic herbs and spices Thomas learned as a child in Haiti.
“I learned to cook from my grandmother when I was six years old,” Thomas said.
But grandma didn’t play games. She takes six-year-old Thomas to the market to buy a small saucepan so they can begin their culinary adventure.
Both received all the necessary ingredients, including live chicken.
And for Thomas, “every young Haitian girl has the right to travel,” to kill a chicken and learn how to properly clean, season and prepare it for dinner.
The experience was unlike any other, but it taught Thomas two things. Firstly, because she loves to cook, and also because she wants to create her own garden, which does not grow, either figuratively or physically.
“That’s why I called this place Garden Café. For us Haitians, the garden is a place that will never stop producing fruit. we will never lack food. “The park is always a random place,” Thomas said.

There's a bit of Haitian culture mixed in, he said, but it's not obvious.
“I have to give people another authentic taste. “Brockton is a gathering place for all ethnicities and races, and I wanted to highlight the Creole variety,” Thomas said.
The store has been open since January 1, and Thomas is excited to see new faces and share his unique taste.
