about this event
Fresh Check Day, a signature program of the Jordan Pig Foundation, is an active student event for mental health and suicide prevention with interactive booths, peer messaging, support from various departments and student groups, free food, entertainment, prizes and giveaways. . .
The goal of Fresh Check Day is to create an accessible and encouraging environment where students are encouraged to talk about mental health. Help build bridges between students and mental health resources on campus, in the community and nationally.
How it works
Upon arrival, students will go to the reception desk to receive a passport or stamp. You will receive a stamp for each stand you visit. Upon completion, students go to the ticket office and fill out a short form to hand over their passport.
- Students who visit at least 2 stalls will receive free Lizzy's ice cream.
- Students who visit at least 5 stands will be entered into a prize draw .
- Students who complete a quick exit feedback survey will receive a free gift.
2023 stands and entertains
- Nine out of 10 directly address suicide prevention by teaching students to act as peer advocates and recognize and respond to warning signs of suicide.
- "Check In and Keep Calm" teaches students how to take care of their mental health as important as their physical health, as well as stress management and coping strategies.
- Know Your Limits promotes awareness of drinking safety and the signs of alcohol abuse or addiction in you or others, and provides resources to help you.
- YOUnique promotes body positivity, combats eating disorders on college campuses and teaches students how to help.
- Enrichment focuses on physical activity that benefits mental health and encourages students to find physical activities they enjoy.
- 100 Reasons Why challenges students to think about their own reasons for living and inspire others to find theirs. It offers hope and provides resources and information on how to help a friend who is considering suicide.
- It takes a whole town to realize that getting involved in your community is a preventative measure against suicide, building social networks and feeling connected.
- Be Yourself promotes acceptance of yourself and others for who they are, and provides information about risk and protective factors in the LGBTQ+ community.
- The Elephant in the Room focuses on and explores the themes of how a lack of awareness, stigma or misunderstanding can cause some people to hide their feelings and experiences for fear of being feared or judged.
- Rise Up often focuses on the mental health effects of sexual violence. It encourages the public and avoids victim blaming and the influence of language.
- Yubelong raises awareness of the unique experiences of international students, BIPOC students, and non-traditional students, and how colleagues can support them by connecting students with resources.
