The Greater Memphis Chamber, the Memphis and Mid-South YMCA, and WeCare tlc are working together to open primary care clinics at YMCA locations in the Memphis area.

What started in 2006 as an idea from the Memphis Grand Chamber board to reduce healthcare costs in the Memphis market is becoming a reality for the partnership.

The purpose of the clinics is to expand access to health care in areas of Memphis where affordable health care is most needed. Chamber Benefits Inc. help finance and manage the clinic. Chamber Benefits Inc. is a subsidiary of the Chamber dedicated to providing quality and affordable employee benefits to Memphis businesses.

Businesses of all sizes can enroll their employees in the program for $40 per employee per month. Individuals without their own company can also enroll in the program for the same price. There are no additional payments or discounts for employees. Additional costs relate to laboratory work and chronic medications and are covered by the employer at a reduced rate.

“We want to make our society and our economy healthier,” said Ted Townsend, CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber. “If you have a healthy population, that means your economy will grow. We see this as an advantage and a good result for everyone in terms of profitability.”

The clinic will have five laboratories with an area of 2,500 square meters. You will have full-time staff including general practitioners and health coaches. ChamberCare Medical Centers is operated by WeCare tlc, a Tennessee Certified Women's Company that operates medical centers throughout the country.

“Chamber offers in many ways a very active, independent and balanced primary care platform,” said Reagan Le Doiron, President and CEO of WakeCare TLC. "It gives small employers access to programs that larger companies may not offer their employees."

Three early opening goals include a YMCA location in Cordoba, a downtown location, and a newly refurbished Whitehaven in early 2024. The recruitment procedure is determined by the employer and the location of the registered positions.
