Multicultural Health Institute To Host 2day Environmental Justice Forum With Film And Panel
Ecological Forum held in the Multicultural Health Institute
The Institute for Multicultural Health will host an environmental justice forum April 24-25 at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center and the Powell Crossley Estate.
The event includes a Dark Water Show on April 24 at Fogartyville, 525 Kumquat Court, Sarasota. The film follows New College graduate and attorney Rob Billot's successful lawsuit against the chemical company DuPont. On April 25, MHI will host a roundtable on Suncoast environmental issues at the Powell Crosley Estate, 8374 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.
Participants include Justin Blum, founder of Suncoast Waterkeeper; former Sarasota Mayor Fred Atkins; Cameron Partridge Hodgins of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation; Christine Quigley of the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program; and Tom Higginbotham, Director of Environmental Health, Emergency Preparedness and Safety, Sarasota Health Department. Ringling College of Art and Design has appointed a new vice president of professional development
Sarah Curtis Robinson, current director of executive development for the Van Wessel Foundation/Sarasota Performing Arts Foundation, will join the Ringling College of Art and Design as vice president of development, effective May 15.
"Sarah's approach and experience as a leader, fundraiser and professional development program for visual and performing arts enthusiasts will further enhance our program," said Ringling College President Larry R. Thompson. "His leadership and talent will be critical as we move to the next level of philanthropy to support Ringling College's many ambitions."
A former director of development for Sarasota Ballet, Robinson works with all areas of the Ringling College community, including faculty, staff, the Sarasota Museum of Art, the Osher Institute for Lifelong Learning and the Englewood Performing Arts Center. "This is an exciting time for Sarasota with great opportunities to grow our creative community," Robinson said.
Suncoast Remake Training Days at Sarasota National Cemetery
The Sarasota County Arts and Culture Coalition will host a family, educational and patriotic event April 22-23 at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, as part of the Suncoast Days of Reincarnation Education Days.
The Veterans Plaza event will be held today from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The open house is full of civic pride activities, including a tour of the Veterans Plaza, a real flag folding and several activity stations.
The 10-day Suncoast Remake Learning Days runs through April 30 and is hosted by the Patterson Foundation. Relearning Days invites families to discover a world of knowledge and fun through dynamic learning. For more information, visit remakelearning.org.
The Heritage Awards will honor the 2023 winners at Van Wessel
The Sarasota Alliance for Historic Preservation and the Sarasota County Coalition for Historic Preservation will present the Sarasota County Heritage Awards on May 6 from 4 pm to 8 pm in the Grand Foyer of the Van Wessel Performing Arts Hall.
SAHP President Laurie Muldaughey said the Heritage Awards program was designed in 2014 to “recognize individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to the preservation and understanding of Sarasota County's historic resources.

Englewood Hospital Nursing Service Receives HCA Awards
The Departments of Medicine, Surgery and Surgery at HCA Hospital in Englewood, Florida were recently named HCA Health Department Winners at an awards ceremony in Nashville.
"I am so proud of our nurses who work on the front lines every day to provide compassionate, quality patient care and support our community," said Chief Nursing Officer Andrea Truex.
The Unit of Distinction Award honors the top 5% of the organization's nursing units in its division and recognizes exemplary performance in nursing practice and performance.
