Why Did Several Nurses Get Fired From MCR Health? Bradentonbased Nonprofit Wont Say
March 14 - Bradenton - Several health care workers have been fired from MCR Health, a Bradenton-based nonprofit health care system that has sent resignation letters.
How many have lost their jobs — or why — MCR Health isn't saying. But several laid-off nurses spoke to the Bradenton Herald and said there could be 20 or more.
"It was mostly senior staff," said Kendra Cannon, who received resignation letters while working as a senior nurse.
"No one in my immediate command knew this was coming. Most of those who left were above me," Cannon said.
Kanon gave him no reason to break up. MCR Health asked those who came out to accept the move not to talk to the press.
Cannon refused to sign the letter and filed a complaint with the EEOC.
"I feel 100% targeted and discriminated against because of my race and ethnicity," said Cannon, a black woman. "MCR refused to listen to me, investigate my case, or tell me why they fired me. I understand that Florida has a right to work/fire state, but how they operate and their loyal employees seem to oppose the law and support their policies.
Winnie Williams, RN, has been with MCR Health for 10 years.
"We all got the call on Jan. 6," Williams said. "As if we had released the 22 on the same day, they called us individually."
Williams refused to sign the letter, which did not give a reason for termination.
"At the time, I was just trying to figure it out and move on," he said.
MCR Health declined to comment on the breach.
"MCR has no say in HR decisions," the association's lawyers said.
The former CEO of MCR Corporation is suing.
The layoffs are MCR Health's latest controversy.
Patrick Carnegie, the nonprofit's former president and CEO, was hired by MCR Health Inc. in February. They filed a lawsuit.
The lawsuit filed by Carnegie claims Florida plaintiffs MCR Health, Inc. He was charged with torture and breach of contract.
The lawsuit seeks to return Carnegie to his former position, as well as to return all benefits and seniority. Carnegie is asking for a jury trial and for MCR Health to pay attorneys' fees.
Effective November 4, 2022, MCR's board of directors voted to remove Carnegie as president and CEO.
MRI Health did not give a reason for Carnegie's removal, three weeks after the nonprofit was placed under arrest after entering an early intervention program.
The 2021 home battery charge was later replaced by a yard full.
