Government Of Canada Invests Nearly $4 Million In The Alliance For Healthier Communities To Promote Mental Health
The funding is part of a $100 million commitment to support the mental health of people most affected by COVID-19
TORONTO , March 3, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- The Government of Canada is committed to promoting positive mental health for all, particularly those who face disproportionate challenges due to discrimination, socioeconomic status or social exclusion.
Today, the Honorable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, and the Honorable Marco Mendicino, Minister of Public Safety, Deputy Minister of Health, announced nearly $4 million to expand their Healthy Communities project. Improving mental health in Ontario . The aim of the initiative is to promote positive mental health and prevent mental illness by getting people to volunteer through various non-clinical social programs that are "socially meaningful", such as an exercise group, art gallery or community garden.
This program provides training and resources to 28 community health centers and family health teams across Ontario to help implement social policies and improve community-level mental health promotion activities. The program enhances Ontario 211's ability to deliver social benefits to those who use its services. The program expects to reach at least 500 health care workers and 5,000 to 7,500 people, including black, indigenous and other people of color, people living in homeless shelters and other groups, single veterans and low-income individuals and families. . . - Income - Income. received
Today's investment builds on the Government of Canada's announcement in February of $198.6 billion over 10 years to improve Canadian health care, reduce surgical outcomes, support health care providers and improve life-saving mental health and substance abuse services.
