Public Health Sciences Varsity On The Cards

Vice-Chancellor of the Health Academy (HSA) Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan said that the National University of Public Health (NUPHS) would soon be established in the country.

“HSA is the first degree-granting institution in the country to offer PhD and Master of Public Health (MPH) degrees in six disciplines,” said Dr Shehzad in an exclusive interview with The Express Tribune.

"The number of students at the establishment of the institution was 23 people, and now it has reached 750 people.

The vice-chancellor said that the construction of the VDA building has been approved for PC-1, a seven-story building will be built on seven hectares of land this year, and construction work will begin on the campus.

Dr. Shehzad said that schools would be established in all fields on the model of National University of Science and Technology (NUST). He said the HSA has been working on the front lines with the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) during the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

"All the guidelines have been prepared by the HSA as well as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO)," the VC said. Speaking to The Express Tribune, Dr. Shehzad said that HSA is the only institute in the country to have 28 postgraduate students in its faculty. "We are working on training and capacity building. The role of HSAs in improving public health services is also important. Dr Shehzad said HSA receives funding from several sources, including fees, grants and grants from USAID and HEC. "HSA offers doctoral, master's and bachelor's programs," he said, adding that not only doctors but also students from other fields study at the institute.

"NCOC is incredibly helpful in containing the Covid-19 pandemic," he said. The HSA Vice Chancellor said there is a need to improve coordination in Pakistan to fight against polio, hepatitis, cancer, dengue and other deadly diseases. "Breast cancer is not fatal, but women die in Pakistan because of ignorance and ignorance," he said, adding that it is treatable if diagnosed at an early stage and millions of women have been cured.
