Islamabad, February 23. The fate of the medical records program launched by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 2015 is uncertain as some medical services provided to patients under the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) service have been suspended.

Admission of patients from general surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedics and a number of other departments has been suspended. However, the Cardiology Center, Mother and Child Hospital, Children's Hospital and Burn Center continue to serve patients.

NHS spokesman Sajid Shah accused the supplier of "failing to deliver the goods on time" after contacting Chief Executive Officer (ED) Dr Naeem Malik.

Since the establishment of the medical card scheme in 2015, Pakistan Life Insurance Corporation has been leading the scheme and won the contract in 2021 for the next three years (from 2022 to 2025). At present, 100% of residents of Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and some Sindh are eligible for free treatment under this scheme.
