'Is This Me?': Ontario Woman Gets New Health Card With Photo Of Unknown Man
Dania Papaiani had just returned from work on Monday and was relieved to find the mail she had been waiting for weeks had finally arrived.
“I went to check the mail and saw an envelope from ServiceOntario. And I thought great. This is my new health card," Papayani said in an interview with CP24.com.
The 25-year-old had been waiting for a new health card since she applied for an extension at the end of August because she needed it to extend her passport. But the relief suddenly turned to confusion as soon as he opened the envelope.
His photo wasn't on the new health insurance card. There was a picture of a man.
"At first I thought, 'Is it me?' I thought maybe the faded map made me look so awful," she said. But when he looked again, he realized he wasn't in the picture. He didn't know this man.
He adds that the signature on the card is not his, but other details, including the medical card number and date of birth, are correct.
"I thought it was me. I realized it wasn't. And then I laughed," recalls Papaiani. She says she immediately told her family about the card and shared it on her Instagram soon after.
"A lot of my friends texted me and commented on how fun it was, and one of them said, 'You should put this on TikTok. I think that would be nice. It's a really funny video," he said. .
So, Papayani posted the video on TikTok, which has since received more than 419,000 views and 83,000 likes.
In the video, he can be heard saying, "Who is that?" while pointing the camera at the map.
“Who is that on my new medical record? Who is this man?'
In the comments, people joke that it's actually him in the photo. "It's like you. Here's to the world Hun. The real you. Your beauty (sic)," wrote one user.
"Service Ontario was trying to filter," joked another.
He says that since the TikTok was posted, no one has discovered the identity of the person in the photo.
Papagiani says he doesn't know what happened when his card was processed. He thinks it's because he recovered it online.
"A lot of people also commented something like, 'How are you?' You take a picture right there, he said, referring to how your picture is taken when you apply for a ServiceOntario card.
“Coincidentally, I restored it online and didn't draw it there. So that probably had something to do with it."
A spokesman for the Department of Business and Community Services said in a statement that ServiceOntario is investigating the matter "to ensure this does not happen again and is contacting those affected to remedy the situation."
Although somewhat upset about returning to the ServiceOntario center to fix the problem, Papaiani realizes the mistake.
"I don't think it's a big problem. This is definitely a typo and I have a feeling it won't take long to fix once I go to ServiceOntario and give them the medical record. He says.
"I take it for a laugh. I think the laugh was worth it for me and I hope for everyone who watched TikTok."
Papagiani says when he plans to visit the ServiceOntario office, it could be within two weeks.
"I'm afraid they'll take this card away from me. In other words, I'm sure they'll take it because it's worthless. That's why I'm afraid to go there," he said. "That's why I like to be there a little longer before I come back and they give me a credit card."
