A Therapeutic Method Called 'earthing' Offers Health Benefits
BALTIMORE – A centuries-old practice is the latest health trend to clean up social media.
It is called Earth or Earth. This is a medical technique whose purpose is to electrically connect a person to the ground.
This system is widely used. People who practice and study it report more health benefits and a sense of calm.
"People say they have pain in their leg or an area where they can feel pain," says Debbie Yale via TikTok. "Some say it reduces inflammation in the body."
Some remember the scene in the movie "Pretty Woman" where Richard Gere's character walks barefoot across the grass.
So.
Some methods include walking barefoot, gardening, swimming or showering.
Think of it as medicine for Mother Nature.
"Basically, we've found that being connected and staying on the ground has health benefits," said Gaetan Chevalier, director of the Earth Institute.
Chevalier says there's even proven science behind it.
"Planting soil or soil is a very good way to reduce inflammation in the body," he said. "What happens is that when we're not on the field, we actively regulate our body's positive charge. For example, our food is processed, but if you eat food from the garden, it has electrons and provides you with antioxidants."
The earth's free electrons neutralize free radicals in the body, which cause tissue damage.
"We see the most dramatic changes in people with arthritis because most of them are unable to function and the drugs don't work very well for them."
