Tips For Healthy Heart From A Mayo Clinic Cardiologist
In today's era of rapid access to information, medical advances and constant updates of medical advice, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. But when it comes to keeping your heart healthy, Mayo Clinic cardiologist Dr. Francisco Lopez-Jimenez has some simple and important tips that he would like to share with everyone.
"Prevention is better than cure," says Mayo Clinic cardiologist Dr. Francisco Lopez-Jimenez, a belief that remains true today.
And prevention, he says, can start small, focusing on simple things like diet and exercise.
"Try to gradually eat healthier, move throughout the day, and avoid sitting for too long," says Dr. Lopez-Jimenez.
Having a positive attitude can also have a huge impact on your physical well-being. For example, enjoy a walk with a friend.
"To try to find a purpose every day and to give love every day, because these are some of the emotional things we don't take care of, (which also affect the heart)," she says.
Finally, he says, if you've been prescribed medication for high blood pressure or high cholesterol, avoid the risk of a heart attack and follow your doctor's instructions.
"Take this medication, monitor your numbers, and make sure all these factors are under control," says Dr. Lopez-Jimenez.
