Vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at California Lutheran University. However, for the sake of your health and the health of the entire community, we encourage everyone to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Information on how to stay informed can be found on the CDC website.

With few exceptions, veils are optional on most Lutheran campuses in California. However, we recommend that anyone with symptoms or exposure to Covid-19 wear a mask to reduce the spread of the disease.
6. Can I get tested for COVID-19 at Health Services Campus?
Cal Lutheran Health Services has a limited number of test materials available for students only.
Employees are encouraged to use the prescription-only COVID-19 test available at most local pharmacies or to contact their doctor or local emergency room for testing.
7. What if a student in my class tests positive for COVID-19?
Discuss ways to continue the student's learning in isolation and provide appropriate accommodations and extensions. We do not need any special method (including recording) to inform students about their lessons. Since every class is different, we leave it up to the teacher on a case-by-case basis. Determine the best way to keep students isolated. This may include using a 360-degree camera to zoom in on the classroom, but this is at the teacher's discretion. Please maintain a flexible attendance policy.
8. Whose impact notice?
Employees only receive an exposure notice required by Cal-OSHA. Cal Lutheran no longer notifies students of any contacts, but if an individual tests positive for COVID, all exposed students will (optionally) be asked to report a positive test.
California Department of Public Health guidelines define exposure as being in the same indoor environment (eg, classroom, airplane cabin, lounge) for 15 minutes with an infected person within a 24-hour period. This usually means that everyone in the class will be considered vulnerable as most classes are indoors and last more than 15 minutes.
9. Can students be notified of positive cases of COVID-19 in the classroom?
Teachers have the right to notify students in the classroom if someone in their class has tested positive for COVID, as long as it does not violate FERPA privacy laws. This means that a teacher can tell their class that a person who tested positive for Covid in "class at 10:00 on Monday" (for example), as long as the teacher does not reveal the name of the infected person. It is not a violation of FERPA to send notices containing general information to students and informing them of their impact. In this case, teachers can remind exposed students to monitor for symptoms and test 3-5 days after exposure, but they will not require students to test negative before entering the next class.
10. Why wasn't I told about the autopsy?
There are many reasons why people may not report exposure.
(1) The positive person has not yet submitted a list of close contacts. All positive persons are directed to provide contact information as soon as possible. However, if the person is seriously ill, this task may take several days to complete, as taking care of their health is a top priority. After receiving information about a close contact, we notify staff of the infection within one business day.
(2) Positive people cannot list you as close contacts. Contact tracing is based on the memory of a person infected with Covid. If a person who tests positive for Covid forgets an interaction or event, it cannot be considered a close contact.
(3) The positive person may contact you outside the period of infection. We only report infections in individuals if the infection occurred during the infectious period of the infected person.
(4) A positive person may not contact you for quite some time. We only report exposures to individuals who meet the definition of close contact as defined by the California Department of Health. The definition of close contact is: “Anyone in the same indoor airspace, such as at home, in a clinic waiting room, on an airplane, etc., for a total of 15 minutes or more during a 24-hour period. of hours. Duration of infected person (eg, three separate 5-minute exposures, for a total of 15 minutes) (laboratory-confirmed or clinical diagnosis) infectious period.
11. If a student tells me that he is sick and cannot attend class, can I ask for proof?
We ask faculty members to give students the benefit of the doubt for the overall health of the California Lutheran congregation. Teachers should not ask for test results or other medical information because this information is protected by patient privacy laws. Please maintain a flexible attendance policy.
12. What accommodations do I need to make for student isolation?
The health of the California Lutheran community is very important. At the same time, it is imperative that we do everything in our power to help students progress toward their educational goals. Please make every effort to ensure continuity of education for students in segregation and prisons. Be flexible with accommodations and make sure they have access to the learning materials they need to complete course requirements.
Teachers have many options, including providing study materials, lecture notes, lecture notes, assignments and recordings, or allowing students to supplement their classes with 360-degree cameras. Instructors must increase course requirements if students are ill or if isolation prevents them from completing assignments on time.
