KP: Health Card Services To Continue Despite Speculations Of Suspension
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Rabia, 37, a resident of Nowshera district, was among many to express concern over the news of possible suspension of health card services. Her husband suffers from chronic abdominal pain, and despite previous surgery, Rabia fears his condition will worsen and require hospitalization.
In an interview with TNN, Rabia shared her struggle for treatment due to rising inflation. They say the health card is their last hope, but news of its possible closure worries them as access to health care seems almost impossible without it.
Rabia is not alone in her interests. Thousands of people are worried about the news that health card benefits have stopped. Explaining the rationale behind the no-care notice appearing on the health cards, Tanuli explained that the health card care costs are borne by State Life and the government provides funds to State Life. In cases where your State Life payments are late, notices are issued and sometimes reported in the media. But he stressed that these views are only formal and free assistance will continue as usual.
It should be noted that there have been rumors of suspension of health cards in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for quite some time. Although the health card services were temporarily suspended a few days ago, they have since been restarted.
According to Tanoli, so far more than 2.2 million people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have received treatment through health cards, with 1.3 million benefiting in the current fiscal year. He highlighted the health card as a valuable initiative that provides free treatment to those who have difficulty accessing medical care.
Nowshera resident Farzana, 33, praised the health card scheme calling it a boon for the underprivileged. She shared her personal experience, explaining how the health card covered the cost of her last delivery, which would have cost her around Rs 45,000 without the facility.
Farzan highlighted the importance of health cards not only for free aid but also for taking care of the sick. He urged the government to ensure continuity of this important facility. Muhammad Riyad Tanuli emphasized that only those who have a health card get treatment, be it surgery or outpatient treatment.
As for future plans, Tanoli revealed that a pilot program to extend health card coverage to outpatient care is underway in four states, including Mardan and Kohat. The project will initially last for two years and if successful will be gradually extended to other regions.
To address concerns and complaints, Tanoli stressed that there are spokespersons in hospitals and government support offices where health card treatment is offered. People can complain directly and a toll-free number (080089898) is available 24/7 for inquiry and response. He also said that complaint boxes have been installed in big hospitals as well.
Tanoli assured the residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that despite the difficult situation, the interim government has decided to continue the health card scheme. He urged residents not to worry and assured that the program would continue to provide free healthcare to residents.
